Located in a place to the south of the island is the village of Es Migjorn Gran, formerly called San Cristóbal.
It originated around 1769 through the efforts of a group of men from Ferreries led by Cristóbal Barber, whose name was taken by the original hermitage around which the quiet little village formed.
There, D. Francisco Camps Mercadal was born and practiced as a doctor, a notable historian and folklorist, a patient investigator of the customs, stories, and songs of the rural sector. The municipal term of Es Migjorn Gran is the region in all of the Balearic Islands richest in megalithic monuments, with a density of 5 prehistoric remnants per km2; as his parish priest wrote graphically at the beginning of the last century, the entire district is a talayot.
Among the main remains of the past, the grandiose Cova des Colom stands out, of cathedral proportions; the hypostyle hall of Binigaus and the colossal talayot of Sant Agustí Vell, whose wide chamber is of a unique characteristic in archaeology. The beaches of Santo Tomas and Binigaus are also within the municipal term of Es Migjorn Gran.
The village has a series of hiking routes along the Cami de Cavalls, as well as a 2.8 km circular route that circumvents the village to admire the typical orchards and local customs. A set of two accommodations with a capacity of up to 10 people, which can be booked independently (apartment for 2 guests, main house for 8 guests or entire house with a total capacity of 10 people) located in the village of Es Migjorn Gran, in the south-central part of the island with easy access to Santo Tomás Beach and local hiking routes of great ecological value.
